Therapy is NOT…
- about telling you what you should do or about giving you advice.
- a quick fix or a magic wand that will solve all your problems.
- a one-sized all approach – what works for someone else may not work for you and that is ok.
- about ‘fixing’ or ‘eliminating’ emotion. Emotions are a natural part of the human experience, to be understood and navigated rather than something to be solved or conquered. As we become more aware of and familiar with our emotions, we are better able to support ourselves in healthier ways.
- likely to be effective if the therapeutic relationship is not based on trust. It is important that clients feel comfortable and able to speak freely and it can take time to build trust, especially true if past experiences of relationships have not been positive.
