What are my values?

I am guided personally and professionally by a number of core beliefs and ethical values…

  • To be my authentic self in the therapy space and within the therapeutic relationship, to encourage and support clients to find their own way of ‘being’ in the world
  • A commitment to promoting inclusivity and a sense of belonging
  • Approaching clients with compassion, empathy, respect and sensitivity regardless of who they are or how they identify
  • To practice within an anti-oppressive framework to support those coping with marginalisation, oppression, harassment or discrimination in a world that doesn’t always feel safe or accept, respect or tolerate diversity, however perceived or presented
  • A commitment to encouraging empowerment, to support clients to increase awareness and connection with their inner resources and emotional resilience
  • To recognise and respect individuality of identity and expression, to acknowledge and accept that others have various characteristics that may intersect in ways that may help, or hinder, them
  • A commitment against pathologisation, to not view clients as having ‘deficits’, as being ‘disordered’, broken or a medical problem to be fixed or solved, but rather to support them to connect with their own emotional experience and to accept this as a natural and ‘normal’ response to life
  • A commitment to transparency, integrity and accountability, to offer a consistent therapeutic approach rooted within the BACP Ethical framework.

There is no standard normal. Normal is subjective. There are 7 billion versions of normal on this planet.
