How do sessions ‘work’?
Sessions are 50 minutes and take place, initially at least on a weekly basis.
This is because the therapeutic relationship needs time to become established; the ‘success’ of this alliance can play a significant role towards achieving therapeutic goals so meeting regularly is important.
The frequency of sessions may change over time depending upon risk and individual circumstances (including the type and intensity of presenting issue, financial concerns), and this is regularly reviewed with you, but you are in control of this as well as deciding whether to pause or end therapy.
The number of sessions I offer is open-ended and is determined by you and the issues you bring to therapy. We can, of course, agree to a set number of sessions and review this together.
There is no set format for sessions – I work with you as an individual, with your own way of being, thinking and feeling, and together we explore your experiences and feelings in the moment and at a pace you feel most comfortable with.
We can, however, have more structure during sessions if this better suits your unique neurodiverse approach – therapy is a fluid and collaborative process and I support you to figure out what works best for you.
In exceptional circumstances when ‘life happens’ and a session needs to be rearranged or cancelled, I have a policy for this.
